About Montserrat
Montserrat — meaning "serrated mountain" — is Catalonia's most sacred site and one of Spain's most visited destinations. The striking multi-peaked mountain rises dramatically from the plains 50 km northwest of Barcelona, home to a 9th-century Benedictine monastery and the revered Black Madonna (La Moreneta).
Over a million pilgrims and tourists visit each year to venerate the Black Madonna, watch the famous Escolania boys' choir (one of Europe's oldest), and hike the network of mountain trails with panoramic views over Catalonia.

How much is a transfer from Barcelona to Montserrat?
From €110 for an economy sedan, fixed per vehicle rather than per person, so a group pays once. A minivan for four to eight passengers is €145, and the full ladder is in the table above. The price excludes VAT and tolls: 10% VAT is added only if you ask for an invoice.
How long does the journey take?
50 km and about 50 minutes in normal traffic. Allow longer at rush hour and on summer weekends, when the coastal and inland roads out of Barcelona both carry holiday traffic. The fare does not change when the traffic does.
Will the driver wait while we visit?
Yes, if you book it that way. Montserrat is a return trip for almost everyone, and a wait-and-return keeps the same car and driver for the journey back rather than leaving you to the last cremallera down. Tell us roughly how long you want and we will quote the wait before you book.
How long should we allow at the mountain?
Three to four hours suits most visits — the basilica, the viewpoints and lunch. Add time if you plan to take a funicular higher up or walk any of the paths. If you want the full day, by-the-hour hire is usually cheaper than a transfer with a long wait attached.
Is a private car better than the train and cable car?
For one or two people the rack railway is atmospheric and good value, and we will say so. A private car earns its price with a group, with anyone who finds steps and connections difficult, or when you want to arrive before the coaches do — which is the single biggest difference to how the place feels.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
We track your flight by its number and move the pickup to the actual landing time at no charge. Airport pickups include 60 minutes of free waiting from touchdown, which covers passport control and baggage reclaim on all but the worst days.
Is this a private car or a shared shuttle?
Private. We never combine bookings, share the vehicle with other passengers or sell seats individually. The car is yours from the pickup to the door.
Booking and payment
Give us the pickup address, the date and the number of passengers, and the price is confirmed before you pay. It does not move afterwards — not for traffic, not for the hour of the day, and not for a public holiday. You can pay by card when you book or in cash to the driver, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup.
Book the vehicle by boot space rather than by seats. Seats and luggage are separate limits and the boot usually runs out first, particularly on a holiday route where people travel with full suitcases.
