The train is genuinely cheaper and we will not pretend otherwise — if you are travelling light and landing in daylight, take it. It stops being the better option with two suitcases, a late flight, or an apartment up the hill behind the front, because the R2 needs a change and the walk at the far end is the part nobody plans for. A taxi costs roughly what a transfer costs on this distance, with the difference that you find out the number at the end rather than the beginning.
Where in Sitges you are staying
The fare is door to door to any address in the town, which matters here more than in most places. Sitges is compact but it is built on a slope: the seafront and Passeig de la Ribera are flat, the old town behind the church is narrow and stepped, and the residential areas at Vallpineda and Levantina sit well above the centre.
A station arrival leaves you at the top of the town with your luggage. Give the full address when you book — a hotel name, an apartment number, or the marina at Aiguadolç — and the driver takes you to it rather than to a drop-off point.
Some of the old-town streets are pedestrian or too narrow for a car. Where that is the case the driver gets as close as the road allows and helps with the bags the rest of the way, which is a short walk rather than a hill.

Carnival, Pride and the Film Festival
Sitges fills completely three times a year, and each one changes how a transfer works. Carnival in February and Pride in June both close roads in the centre; the International Film Festival in October fills the hotels rather than the streets.
During Carnival and Pride the police close the seafront and several approaches to the old town for the parades. Your driver will get as close as the closures allow and tell you in advance if your address is inside a restricted zone — better to know before you land than to discover it with your luggage on a pavement.
Book earlier than usual for those dates. Availability tightens across the whole Garraf coast, and a fixed fare booked in advance is agreed before the busy days arrive.
Combining Sitges with the coast
A common request is Sitges together with somewhere else on the same run — most often Tarragona, which sits an hour further down the same coast. Ask for it as one journey rather than two bookings and we will price the whole thing, which is normally less than two separate transfers.
The obvious neighbours are Vilanova i la Geltrú, ten minutes further along and a quieter place to stay, and Tarragona with its Roman town. The whole stretch is priced in the same table, so the fares are directly comparable — the Costa Dorada page covers the run south.

Is the train from Barcelona Airport to Sitges better?
If you are one or two people travelling light and landing during the day, honestly yes — the Rodalies R2 Sud is much cheaper and reasonably quick. It needs a change, though, and it leaves you at the station rather than at your door, which is what tips the balance for families, late arrivals and anyone staying above the centre.
