The train is cheap and perfectly good if you are one person with one bag and your hotel is near the station. It is a different proposition with a family: the airport is not on the line, so it means reaching Sants first, then the train, then a taxi at the Salou end, with luggage at every step. A taxi will do the whole run, but a metered fare over 100 km is the one number nobody can tell you in advance — which is the argument for a fixed price rather than a claim about theirs.
PortAventura, and where we drop you
The park sits about ten minutes inland from the resort, and the transfer covers both at the same fare. We drop at the park gates, at any of the PortAventura resort hotels, or at your own accommodation in Salou — say which when you book and the driver takes you there directly.
Return pickups at the end of a park day are worth arranging in advance. PortAventura runs late in season, the public connections thin out well before it closes, and a family at the gates at eleven at night is not in a good position to negotiate. Booking the return with the outbound fixes both the time and the price.

How long the drive actually takes
About an hour and ten minutes for the 100 km, almost all of it on the AP-7 and A-7 heading southwest. It is a straightforward motorway run rather than a mountain road, so the time is fairly predictable outside peak season.
Summer Saturdays are the exception. The Costa Daurada changes over on a Saturday and the motorway carries the whole coast's arrivals and departures at once; the same drive can take half an hour longer. A fixed fare means that costs you time and not money — the figure agreed at booking is the figure charged, whatever the AP-7 does.
Flights landing late are fine. We track the arrival by flight number rather than the time you typed in, and airport pickups include 60 minutes of free waiting from touchdown, which on a route with no late train is worth more than it sounds.
The rest of the Costa Daurada
Salou sits in the middle of a run of resorts that share one stretch of coast. Cambrils is ten minutes south with its fishing port and restaurants, La Pineda a few minutes north, and Tarragona with its Roman amphitheatre and UNESCO old town twenty minutes up the road.
Everything along that coast is priced in the same table, so if your stay involves more than one of them the fares are directly comparable rather than being quoted case by case. The Costa Dorada page covers the whole run.

Common questions
How much is a transfer from Barcelona Airport to Salou?
From €140 for the Toyota Corolla, fixed per vehicle rather than per person — so a family of four pays once. A minivan for a larger group is €180. The price excludes VAT and tolls: 10% VAT is added only if you ask for an invoice.
How long does the transfer to Salou take?
About 1 hour 10 minutes for the 100 km, on the AP-7 and A-7. Allow longer on summer Saturdays, which are changeover day for most of the coast and the busiest the motorway gets.
Can you drop us at PortAventura rather than in Salou?
Yes, at the same fare — the park gates, any of the resort hotels, or your accommodation in town. They are minutes apart and priced together. Tell us which when you book, and arrange the return at the same time if you are staying until the park closes.
Is the train from Barcelona to Salou cheaper?
Per person, yes. The catch is that the airport is not on the line: it means getting to Sants first, then the train, then usually a taxi at the Salou end. For one person with one bag that is fine. For a family with suitcases it is three changes with luggage, and the fixed fare covers the whole vehicle rather than each seat.
What about a taxi?
A taxi will make the journey, but the meter on a 100 km run is the one figure nobody can quote you in advance, and there is an airport supplement on top. Our fare is €140 for an economy car, agreed before you travel. We would rather tell you the number at the start than at the end.
Do you carry pushchairs and child seats?
Yes. Child, baby and booster seats are available on request and fitted before the car is dispatched, so ask when you book rather than on the day. Pushchairs travel in the boot — mention them when booking so the vehicle is sized for them alongside the cases.
